Strengthening ties with neighbors, priority of governments in Iran: envoy

Islamabad, IRNA -- The Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Pakistan says Tehran wants stronger ties with all countries either in east or west, adding that strengthening relations with neighbors, including Pakistan, is a priority of the Islamic Republic and the new Iranian government will follow the same policy.

Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini during an Exclusive interview with Pakistan’s top media group Jang warned that irresponsible US withdrawal will push Afghanistan into civil war.

He said that the government of Iran under Ebrahim Raisi would move forward according to the principles laid in the constitution of Iran.

Expressing his views, the ambassador of Iran said Iran is a peace loving country and wants to have good ties with all countries of the world except Zionist regime.

“Our Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei) has directed us to enhance trade with all countries of the world, especially the Islamic countries,” he said.

Hosseini said Pakistan is not only a brotherly Islamic country but a neighbor of Iran and "we want to take our trade ties with the country to the highest possible level".

The ambassador in his views said Iran has completed its part of Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline project, however, "our Pakistani brothers" due to some issues have not been able to complete the project on their side.

He said Iran-Pakistan gas pipeline agreement expired in 2014 and after that, Iran is entitled to receive penalty from Pakistan because the country did not complete the project in its stipulated time.

Hosseini said Iran has just ignored the violation of the agreement by the Pakistan side and "now we are talking to the Pakistani authorities about a new time frame".

Ambassador hoped that soon people of Pakistan, especially the residents of the bordering areas, would start getting benefits of the project.

The ambassador said Iran has not removed and expelled German experts from Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant. He said Europe used to be the most important trading partner of Iran, but unfortunately they have given their share to China.

Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini said "we are closely monitoring the situation in Afghanistan". He said that despite tall claims the US has failed to bring any kind of stability in Afghanistan during last 20 years.

He said that irresponsible US withdrawal will push Afghanistan into civil war.

The envoy said Iran is hosting three millions refugees for past 40 years and in case of civil war in Afghanistan we would not able to host more refugees.

He said the US is responsible for the unrest in Afghanistan adding that after Iraq and Syria, the US relocated Daesh to Afghanistan. He added that everybody knows that the US is behind the creation of Daesh.

The ambassador went on to say Iran is trying to play a positive role to bring peace and stability in Afghanistan and has recently hosted a peace meeting with the participation of Afghan groups including Taliban.

He added that Afghanistan and its current crisis will never have a military solution. "The power and money spent on military operations must be spent on peaceful negotiations and diplomacy in order to reach a final understanding."

The Iranian envoy to a question said the IAEA in its 17 reports has confirmed that the Islamic Republic is fully complying its nuclear obligations.

He said that the US has to lift all sanctions from Iran if they want to get back into the Iran Nuclear Deal. He noted that the Biden administration is following the footsteps of the previous government as far as Iran is concerned.

Hosseini said the Europe too has failed to fulfill its obligations under the JCPOA and has not given any facility to Iran to open a banking channel with EU for financial transactions; rather they are putting pressures on Iran.

He noted that the JCPOA is a multilateral agreement in which all parties have to fulfill their commitments.
